Call for Papers: Translation in the Global South: Decolonizing the Discipline

For decades, mainstream Translation Studies has been heavily Eurocentric, focusing primarily on Western linguistic theories and historical narratives. However, a vital paradigm shift is underway. The upcoming conference on Translation in the Global South seeks to decenter these traditional frameworks and shine a light on the rich, complex translation practices emerging from Africa, Latin America, and South Asia.

Decolonizing Translation Theory

This conference invites scholars to critically interrogate how colonial legacies continue to shape modern translation practices. Submissions should aim to explore non-Western concepts of translation, recognizing that the very definition of “translation” can vary radically across different indigenous cultures.

Researchers are encouraged to submit papers exploring oral translation traditions, the role of translation in anti-colonial resistance movements, and the power dynamics inherent in translating between minoritized languages and global lingua francas.

Key Dates and Submission Rules

Abstracts of approximately 350 words should clearly outline the theoretical basis of the research and the specific geographic or linguistic context being studied.

By bringing together voices from the margins, this event aims to construct a truly globalized, inclusive model of Translation Studies that reflects the diverse realities of the modern world.
